Hadhrat Zulfiqar db Advice to Talibaat
[from Ladies Bayan - 27 Ramadan 1436 – July 14, 2015]
Be friends with your mother, sisters and books. University friends can be dangerous.
1. Study it well enough for you to be able to teach another person.
- 48 Rule – when you study something, it stays in your ROM for 48 hours. If you solidify it within 48 hours it becomes part of your permanent RAM, otherwise it is deleted.
- Do dowr/review in 24 hours to make it permanent
- Try to explain what you learn to someone else for review
- There is a door to everything, and the door to knowledge is takrar
- Ask questions immediately
- Hadith – Asking good questions is half of Ilm/knowledge
2. Don’t multitask while studying! (no phone, internet, etc,)
3. Sleep well, think well – sleep helps with long term memory
4. Taking breaks refreshes the mind
– e.g. take small breaks for salat, wudu
5. Repeat to remember (to make it part of your permanent memory)
- 90% of what you learn is forgotten in 30 days if not reviewed
6. Eat a heathy diet.
7. Avoid clutter during studying.
– keep things tidy
8. Make a to-do list and check-off items as you complete them.
9. Have separate folders for each subject.
10. Make dua that Allah subhana wa ta’ala put the noor of the knowledge in your heart so that you can take advantage of it and benefit from it.
Keep yourself busy in gathering knowledge so that it can enlighten your heart and benefit you for the rest of your life.
