Shaykh Kamaluddin DB 25 june 2015

Majlis - 25/06/15
[Missed first 20 mins or so]

If you push yourself in ‘ibādah, a new aspect of your personality will come out - your spiritual personality. If someone was to ask you the following; when you ask forgiveness from this sin, which name do you call out? In Tahajjud, do you prefer to do sajdah longer, or stand longer? If you could recite any ayah over and over again, which one would it be? We don’t know cos we don’t have this spiritual personality. But we are acutely tuned into dunyā. We have preferences in flavours, tastes etc, but we don’t have favourite surahs to recite in certain salāhs. Its their inside every one of us, but it hasn’t come out yet. This is your spiritual side - you can discover this in Ramadān. We can discuss diesel vs petrol! We spill our ghaflah.

Before Ramadān, we forced ourselves to read Qur’ān, but in Ramadān, we repeat the ayah again. Rasūlullāh ﷺ would alrwady make so much ‘ibādah, but he still increased it in Ramadān. It is sunnah to push yourself this Ramadān. Pray 8 rakāts if you usually pray 2 in Tahajjud. Ramadān is a month of effort, and you will come to know many things.

Murāqaba - Understand it like this... 99% of people recite Qur'an with tongue, otherwise any other book, we just read silently. We read motionless. Just like this, in Murāqaba - your silently reading the name of Allāh swt over and over again. Not with the tongue, with the heart. It’s that simple. You should want that thousand times in the day, you should want to read His swt name thousands of times. Try to do one hour, then it will open up. Some of you ask can I break this up? Do you ever meet your boss like that. Oh boss, you have called us for a one hour meeting, so maybe we can have 15 mins at 9am, and a 15 min meeting at noon - you would get fired. Do you read your textbooks like that? You wouldn’t be able to understand a single chapter. Get some length and duration in your dhikr - Ramadān is the best month for that.

The capacity to do ‘ibādah - Allāhu Akbar. One hour is nothing. Do you ever only study for one hour a day? Is there anything you do for only one hour a day? People ask should i do murāqaba or recite Qur’ān? They ask things like this - subhānAllāh.Do 1 hour murāqaba for every one juz of Qur’an. Dhikr and Qur’ān will heal your heart - you will enjoy Ramadān. Focus on these two things.

Imagine the heart that has the nūr of Qur’an. That heart will be a good son, a good husband, wife etc. Ramadān is the month where a sālik tries to get this pure heart. May Allāh swt grant us this qalbe-salīm Aameen ya rabbal aa'lameen.
