Shaykh Kamaluddin  DB - 30th Ramadan, Stanger 1436
Jumuah khutbah on Istiqamat

Some things that Allah created are light... they flow away. Like the air, like water.
But some things are firm, like the mountains, boulders - they can't be shaken. They don't "go with the flow".
We need to be like the boulder. Nothing can make it flow away, rather it remains steadfast on the deen bestowed upon it.

If we become the other object... after water of Ramadan has flowed, and the gates of the Dam are put up, the special mercies all stop... then they falter. The shayateen are released, and they will attack. Who will they attack first? The kafir? The non practicing muslim? The somewhat practicing muslim? No, they will attack the practicing shaykh aalim motakif muslim with a ruthless enmity and vengeance!

The flow will end in Ramadan.
But if you became steadfast like the boulder, you will be able to preserve all the actions and feelings of Ramadan.
Our greatest fikr today, on juma tul wida, should be this.

Quran: Fastaqim kama umirta wa man taaba ma'ak.
(be steadfast as you have been commanded by Allah swt, and those who did taubah with you)
If this is the command to Nabi s.a.w, then all the more for us! Even if we didnt make taubah directly with him, we made taubah with his sunnah in Ramadan! So we are being taught that first step is taubah, next step is istiqamat.

Ramadan is about taubah, Shawwal is about istiqamat.
It is mustahabb and beloved to Allah that we fast 6 days in Shawwal. Ajar of entire year + we also get to keep the deeds and feelings of Ramadan if we can work to recall and sustain them in these 6 fasts.

Some things will stop us from this istiqamat.
1) Nafs.
Fast after fast tamed our nafs, decreased it in size. Now nafs will try to grow again and stop us from so many things.
- No need for Isha jamat as no taraweeh
- No need to avoid internet as already did my Quran khatam
- No need to wake up for tahajjud because no suhoor
- No need to go for Fajr jamat
Nafs wants most, for you to lose the feelings of Ramadan!

2) Shaitan.
Day and night he will give u waswasa until you slip into sin.
First thing he will do: fa ansaa hum dhikrullah! (Quran)
Makes you forget the dhikr of Allah swt. That Allah who we were remembering so much and making so many duas to, that Allah we felt so close to finally, after so long, in Ramadan. Shaitan wants us to forget Him and lose all of that.

3) People / Makhlooq.
They will bring mithaee and flowers for ur itikaf.. all of this is just prelude to ghaflat. They will say, spend time with us. It's not bad in itself but it must not lead to ghaflah and sin!
If u strive, ppl will tell you, why are u still reciting Quran and going to masjid? its not Ramadan! it might even be your own family. You must resist. There must be some people who will resist the changes u have intended to make in this Ramadan. E.g. someone wants to remove TV but family opposes, you want to take niqab but husband doesnt support.

To discourage those whom Allah swt encourages is enmity to Allah swt! Allah swt knows how to handle these enemies.

There will be many discouragers and nay sayers. Its very difficult when its someone near and dear to you... if they discourage u on deen, its a huge challenge to istiqamat. Have kindness and hikmat with them but remain steadfast.

HOW? Mujahida!
Strive and follow shariah and sunnah when others/own personality doesn't want it.
This needs to be done the whole life.. we just did it in Ramadan! We are graduating from 30-day intensive mujaahida course. When u graduate, u must use the skills you picked.

Ramadan = Base camp.
Home / office / shop = front line. Maintain the dhikr!
Have istiqamat on leaving the sin or other bad habits.
Maybe u made intention to leave smoking. Mujahida needed to resist all the reminders of this act, the friends, the places where you smoked, etc. When u leave that which is ugly for the sake of Allah swt, Allah will put beauty in ur heart, He will beautify you.

Unlawful relations, sinful actions, etc... whatever u made taubah from, its accepted iA, but u stil have to make effort to avoid it. Taubah is wiping it clean, mujahida is keeping it clean! we scrubbed so much in ramadan by fasting praying making dua taraweeh. u made the cothes clean in laundry, now u need to keep them clean. thats mujahida. n if u want to keep it clean ALWAYS, thats istiqamat.

1. istiqamat on taubah (leaving sins)
2. istiqamat on amaal (tahajjud, dua, etc)
3. istiqamat on feelings (love for Allah, fear of Allah, longing and missing Allah, He is my Rabb... to preserve all that)
4. istiqamat in khidmah (tableegh, ilm, taking care of sick relatives etc... service to ummah, deen and creation)

1 & 2 discussed above. Barakah of sohbat with mashaeikh and dhikr can help u keep the 3rd type, esp if u keep connected via bayans.

Number 4.... when u have istiqamat on one aspect of khidmah, Allah swt can give ajar for all types of khidmahs. E.g. the sahabi who was told by Nabi s.a.w to stay back to t.c of sick mother instead of going on jihad, will get sawab for jihad. so ppl who give life to ilm, tasawwuf, relief work, etc... even if do one, get ajar of all the khidmaat.

Quran: in tansurullah yansurkum!
(if you help Allah, Allah will Help you!)
if u help make the wish and will of Allah swt establish on Earth (i.e. KHIDMAH) Allah swt will Help you!

what help we can give is imperfect - Allah is perfect
we help in one way - Allah will Help in all ways! with ibadat, with ur taubah, with ur feelings, with istiqamat! Allah will Help!

...wa yusabbit aqdaamakum! He will give you istiqaamat in Deen!
We are in an age of fitnah... most ulema say this will continue till imam Mahdi comes. What is fitnah?
Period of such
tests that evil appears (ppl leaving iman, lack of hayaa, etc) and it appears so fast that u can't put out the darkness of that evil by trying to stamp it out.

Fitnah is a time of sharr. You cant stampt it out but you yourself must become the nur... The more you create nur, the more the fitnah will itself go away. thats the only way to go about it now. We must spread that Nur. Nur of dhikr taqwa ilm dawah khidmah adab ikhlaq hayaa must be reignited in ourselves and those around us. When we become the nur, the darkness withdraws automatically.

It comes in the Quran that
...sumastaqaamu, tatanazalu alaeehimul malaeeka... la takhafu wa la tahzanu!
Those who have istiqamat on Deen, the angels descend on them, they want to be their friends NOW, in this world, can't wait till Jannah... and these people will have no worries, no sorrow, no depression due to sin! this is wilaayat. So people of istiqamat become the wali of Allah swt.

Just after completing the 30-day training of Ramadan, this is our best shot at this istiqamat. May Allah swt accept all of us and keep us under His Protection Aameen
