Day 1
Night Majlis
Brief notes
Muraqaba - the dhikr is which the heart of the rooh remembers الله’S Name
Who is الله? He is the One Who is Named by the Name الله. By remembering His Name, He Himself is remembered. Once you connect to الله’S Name, you will be connected to الله Himself.
الله Is Keeping close vigil over us. We should also want to become intensely aware of Him. Close our eyes, shut down our thoughts, detach from our environment, so that we are aware only and only of الله!
Remembering الله by His Name at both ends of the day, is the cure for the ghaflat, emptiness and absent-mindedness of the heart.
The cure
Try to sit for 2 hours a day if you have been bayah longer, if not, try to spend an hour in muraqaba daily.
Fana
We want to go from being 100% attached to dunya and 0% attached to الله to being 100% attached to الله and 0% attached to dunya – we fix this through lots of dua, ibadah, itikaaf, fasting, taraweeh, dhikr. These will attach our heart to الله and as the qalb attaches more to الله, it will detach more from dunya. Maximise your dhikr especially in these ten days and try to remember Him at all times.
Being 100% attached to الله and 0% attached to dunya is fana – this is not a way of life, rather it is a temporary stage through which we purify our heart. Itikaaf is one way to get fana, as in this state we become Fanafillaah – we become so absorbed in the dhikr of الله that this awareness erases the awareness of the dunya and of even of the self. This concept of fana is from within the Quraan and Sunnah – Nabi SAAW secluded himself to the cave of Hira, this 100% disconnect from dunya was fana. Also the Ashaab e kahf, the young men who lived in a corrupt society who tried to max out their connection with الله whilst living within that society, however they wanted more connection and so went to the cave with a niyyah to be there temporarily to attain fana and connect 100% with الله.
So Sunnah itikaaf is a way to attain fana – don’t talk, don’t be interested and curious about makhlooq and people and surroundings – be aware of الله only.
1. Muraqaba is the action that brings a person into fana – bcs it strips you bare of even yourself, your sight, thoughts etc. and makes your heart connect 100% with الله . Once you get it, you will want to stay in it, as you will never want to forget الله once you have learnt to remember Him, and you will never want to remember the world once you have learnt to forget it. Attain fana through muraqaba and have baqa through wuqoof e qalbi.
The Sunnah of fana continues to baqa . Baqa is to come out of the temporary state of fana and connect to the world, however that connection is now lillaah fillaah – for the sake of الله and not personal. Your work, relationships, etc will be for the pleasure of الله only– and these people will have the shade of الله’S Arsh on the Day of Judgment.
The 100% dhikr of fana remains during baqa (is baaqi) – it remains, and you live your life according to Sunnah.
Itikaaf is a place to attain fana and to train to re-enter the world in baqa – in which your dhikr has remained and is affecting each part of your life.
Baqa in Qur’aan - Don’t let your trade and engagement in the world distract you from الله.
2. Salaah. Fana is also meant to be attained five times a day through salaah – through which الله tries to teach us the worthlessness of the world, every single day. We must unplug completely, and devote ourselves so deeply to الله in our salaah and attain fana within it - so that we create baqa between salaah.
Increase muraqaba in these days, increase nafl salaah, make dua after every ibaadah, pray for istiqamah .
We can all become dhaakir and Shaykh believes this will happen as the Kibaar e awliya, mashaiikh e tariqat are those whose duas are Accepted and الله Brings about change at their hands, and there are always a few awliya like this in the world. He has seen Hadhrat ji's duas Accepted in this way in the past.
Try, strive, get to a strong start – and you will finish with a strong end
. Try for fana in these days, ask الله, open your heart to Him, and you will attain that love to remember Him.
